Why mountain retreats work for teams, and when they do not
Office life has its own rhythm: calendars, meetings and notifications. A mountain retreat breaks that routine, changing the view, the pace and how people talk. An accountant who usually knows the sales team only by email suddenly solves a timed challenge or bakes Silesian cake with them. You cannot schedule those moments, but you can create the conditions for them.
The mountains make that easier for three reasons:
- A shared challenge. A woodland game, sports challenge or cable car ride to the summit gives people an experience they share together.
- A break from routine. An hour’s journey is enough for teams from Katowice or Bielsko-Biała to feel somewhere different.
- An evening with atmosphere. A gala after a day in the mountains feels different from dinner at a roadside hotel.
The mountains are not right for every company. If most staff are in Warsaw, four hours each way takes a large slice of the programme. A closer venue may be better; see our guide to choosing a team retreat venue. If your budget or calendar allows just one day, choose the one-day programme, which ends around 17:30 without an overnight stay.
Good news for anyone who dislikes hiking: our programme does not require mountain walks. Activities take place at Konfero, and the Czantoria trip uses a cable car.
Why the Silesian Beskids: travel that leaves time for day one
On a two-day retreat, every hour on a coach is an hour lost from the programme. Ustroń is close enough to the Silesian cities, Bielsko-Biała and Kraków for your team to leave in the morning and enjoy foyer coffee at 9:30.
| From | Distance | Driving time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bielsko-Biała | around 30 km | around 25 min | Via the S52 and Skoczów |
| Katowice | around 80 km | around 1 h – 1 h 10 min | Fastest via the S1 and S52 |
| Ostrava (Czechia) | – | around 1 h | A good option for companies across the Czech border |
| Kraków | around 145 km | around 1 h 40 min – 2 h | Depends on route and traffic |
| Warsaw | – | around 4 h | Consider travelling the day before |
Approximate journey-planner times, excluding traffic. Coaches are usually slightly slower than cars.
By train. Koleje Śląskie runs direct trains from Katowice to Ustroń, taking around 1 hour 20 minutes. This is convenient for individuals travelling separately. A coach from one meeting point is simpler for a whole group.
On arrival. The car park has 110 spaces. For groups of 300–400, we expect most participants to arrive by coach, leaving car spaces for management, speakers and separate arrivals.

Mountain activities for groups of 100–400
With a large group, the challenge is keeping everyone involved rather than waiting in line. Our programme uses rotations: teams of around 25 move between stations every 30 minutes.
| Activity | Duration | Location | If it rains |
|---|---|---|---|
| Team rotations: Silesian cake workshop, Beskid outdoor game, sports tournament and construction challenge | around 2 h | Konfero’s rooms and grounds | Stations move indoors |
| Team challenge | around 1.5 h | Sports courts | Indoor version in Diament Hall |
| Final team tournament | around 1 h 15 min | Sports courts or Diament Hall | Diament Hall |
| Czantoria: cable car, walk and picnic (Premium) | around 2.5 h including travel | Czantoria Cable Car, Ustroń | Replaced with an on-site programme |
| Sauna for management or the winning team | 2 h, up to 12 people | Konfero | Unchanged |
Czantoria with 400 people: planning the numbers
Czantoria Wielka (995 m above sea level) is the highest peak in the range above Ustroń. A four-seat chairlift runs 1,640 m from the lower station in Ustroń-Polana (389 m) to Polana Stokłosica (851 m). It can carry up to 1,800 people per hour, with the ride itself taking a few minutes.
At full capacity, 400 people would theoretically take around 13 minutes. Allow around half an hour in practice for boarding and team organisation. A 29 m observation tower stands on the Czech side of the summit, with views including Równica and Barania Góra in clear weather.
Good to know. Czantoria Cable Car exhibited at the Cieszyn Silesia Attractions Fair, held at Konfero in September 2026. Operating hours depend on season and weather, so we confirm them before departure and keep an indoor backup plan.

Accommodation and transfers: moving 400 people
Konfero is deliberately an event venue rather than a hotel: the whole building belongs to one company on event day. We book partner hotels in Ustroń and run coaches between the hotels and Konfero. A two-day programme usually includes four transfers: morning arrival, afternoon hotel transfer, evening gala arrival and return after the gala.
| Participants | Rooms (2 guests) | Coaches (around 50 seats) |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | around 50 | 2 |
| 200 | around 100 | 4 |
| 300 | around 150 | 6 |
| 400 | around 200 | 8 |
A typical coach seats 49–57. Room numbers change when some guests need single rooms.
Groups of 300–400 usually stay across several hotels. Clear transfer schedules make this straightforward: each participant knows their stop and departure time. Our coordinator handles it.
How much does a company mountain retreat cost?
We show starting prices because each retreat is tailored to a specific company. Prices apply to 400 people, Monday–Thursday, and include exclusive venue hire, programme, scheduled meals, technical facilities and staff.
What changes the price:
- Group size. Some costs are fixed, including stage, technical facilities and evening entertainment, so smaller groups pay more per person.
- Date. Monday–Thursday venue hire is 10% cheaper than weekends.
- Accommodation and transfers depend on group size and hotel standard.
- Extras, such as a cocktail bar, photographer, video or Czantoria in the Standard programme.

When to go: seasons in the Beskids
The Beskids work all year round, but each season changes the programme.
| Season | What works best | Things to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | Sports courts, outdoor activities and longer days | Changeable weather: a backup plan is essential |
| Summer | Full outdoor programme, picnic and Czantoria | Heat: air-conditioned rooms and shade between stations |
| Autumn | Mountain colours and quieter surroundings than summer | Shorter days: schedule outdoor activities earlier |
| Winter | A festive gala atmosphere, indoor activities and Czantoria ski resort | Travel depends on conditions: allow extra journey time |
Whatever the season, Monday–Thursday offers the widest date choice and lower venue hire rates.

‘The event hall has top-quality technology: superb visuals, lighting and sound. […] We came with a large group of young people and had an especially good experience. There are plenty of activities nearby.’
